"Rehabilitative Interventions that Target Restoration for Paralysis"
Speaker: Cristina Sadowsky, MD

Speaker Bio: I am the Clinical Director and co-founder of the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury (ICSCI) at the Kennedy Krieger Institute (KKI) and the Director of the Paralysis Restoration Clinic (PRC). The ICSCI, which is also Johns Hopkins’s Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation spinal cord injury (SCI) unit, is nationally recognized as a Clinical Center of Excellence. ICSCI was voted #2 in the country in the Medscape Physicians Survey 2018 (the first survey to evaluate national reputation for SCI units)! The pediatric division was prominently featured as a Center of Excellence in rehabilitating children with acute flaccid myelitis. The ICSCI serves approximately 2,700 active patients and schedules 8,000-10,000 visits per year focusing on the care of individuals with chronic paralysis related to spinal cord disease (SCD). ICSCI has expanded its patient reach from 287 visits/year in the 2005 to 10,914/ year in 2018 period. I currently have >400 patients that I see on an annual basis (at least once/year) and I focus on person-oriented care for these individuals who have paralysis due to spinal cord injury/disease (SCI/SCD).
Objectives: The Case Manager will be able to:
-
Describe neuroplastic changes that can occur early or late post injury
